Recreation Therapist
Full-Time
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager, Therapeutic Recreation & Creative Arts, you will have shared responsibility for the organization of the Recreation/Creative Arts Program including resident care, planning and evaluation. Providing therapeutic recreation programs that support our long-term care residents to maintain their skills and participate in activities that are life enhancing and meaningful.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide consistent, ongoing leadership and supervision of the day-to-day operation of the Recreation and Creative Arts Team, which includes Recreation Programmers, Rehabilitation Assistants, Horticulture Therapist, Musicians, Artists and Music Therapists, students and volunteers.
- This position requires a variety shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma with formal training in Recreation Therapy from a recognized College or University
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in long-term care including relevant management or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong leadership skills and advanced knowledge of the aging process and dementia
- Commitment to a multi-disciplinary team and a person-centered approach working with residents, patients, staff, families and volunteers
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the capacity for both self-direction and collaboration within a team framework
- Excellent writing, time management, resource management and computer skills required
- Membership professional association such as Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) or Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA)
- Current Food Handlers Certificate
