RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization
Continuous Improvement Through Excellence
At Perley Health, "good" is never good enough. Our culture of continuous improvement ensures that we are always seeking a higher standard of excellence for the Seniors and Veterans we serve.
In 2016, through a competitive process, Perley Health was selected by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) to become a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO). This prestigious designation is a testament to our commitment to advocating for the greater good by implementing world-class, research-driven care.
Backgrounder
To understand our commitment to excellence, it is important to recognize the organizations that help us reach our potential:
-
Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO): Founded in 1925, the RNAO is the professional body representing registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and nursing students in Ontario. They advocate for healthy public policy and promote excellence in nursing practice to improve health outcomes across the province.
-
Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO): Launched in 2003, the BPSO is a globally recognized quality improvement initiative. It provides a framework for healthcare organizations to implement and evaluate Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs) - evidence-based documents that ensure care is based on the latest research rather than tradition alone.
By participating in this "social movement" of knowledge, Perley Health joins over 500 health organizations worldwide in a mission to optimize health system outcomes.
Transforming Care Through Innovation
By putting the latest research into practice, reducing variation in care, and eliminating ineffective interventions, this initiative ensures Ottawa-area Seniors and Veterans receive the highest standards of quality care.
Our evidence-based approach means:
-
Leading with Authority: We use evidence-based practice to empower our team and ensure our residents reach their full potential.
-
Person-Centred Focus: We tailor every plan to the unique needs of the individual, ensuring our "Community of Care" remains compassionate and respectful.
-
Global Impact: We actively share our findings and breakthroughs with the broader community to help all Seniors live life to the fullest.
Our Active Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs)
Perley Health is currently implementing the following BPGs to prioritize safety and excellence across every facet of our organization:
-
Safety & Prevention: Prevention of Falls and Fall Injuries; Risk Assessment and Prevention of Pressure Injuries; Preventing & Addressing Abuse & Neglect of Older Adults.
-
Clinical Excellence: Assessment and Care of Delirium, Dementia, and Depression; Assessment and Management of Pain; Proactive Approach to Bladder and Bowel Management.
-
Compassionate Support: Person- and Family-Centred Care; End-of-Life Care; A Palliative Approach to Care in the Last 12 Months of Life.
-
Leadership & Transitions: Developing and Sustaining Nursing Leadership; Transitions in Care and Services.
Through our partnership with the RNAO, Perley Health continues to lead the way in frailty-informed care, proving that through innovation and passion, we can help our heroes live life to the fullest.
