Kim Soucie: A 32-Year Journey at Perley
Kim Soucie, Human Resources Administrator, joined the Perley just five days after her 23rd birthday. After 32 years and countless staff engagements and many enduring friendships, Kim will retire.
Kim was introduced to healthcare during a four-year stint with Pontiac Community Hospital, servicing as a bilingual clerk before she was approached by her sister-in-law, Bonnie, inviting her to apply to join the expanding HR department to support the merger of the Rideau Veterans Home, the National Defense Medical Centre and the Perley Hospital.
From humble surroundings in a basement office in the Rideau Veterans Home, Kim laughs as she reminisces over photos of large computers and wood panelled walls. She recalls the basement office was damp and lively on account of the pool in the next room and the recreation and creative arts program above.
Kim fondly remembers returning from her first of two maternity leaves to appreciate the new and beautiful surroundings and offices of The Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre.
A witness to three decades of change in healthcare and technology, Kim says it's the people and personal connections that will stay with her in retirement.
“I met a lot of staff from all walks of life. They share their life story with you in confidence. And it's like, wow, you have no idea how privileged we are!”
She admits to having a countdown clock on her phone as she tracks the days to retirement and looks forward to joining her husband in retirement and enjoying the summer at the cottage, boating and gazing at the sunsets. In the Fall, life's tempo will change again for Kim with the expected arrival of her first grandchild.
“I have been blessed to have been able to meet and know so many nice people and build friendships with them. I still keep in touch with some of them and certainly they have had an impact on my life through the different stages.”
To Kim Soucie, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for 32 years of dedication, compassion, and friendship. May your retirement be filled with cherished moments with family and friends.
