Guest Post: Ice Cream Social

On Thursday, July 17th, Perley Health proudly welcomed Korean War Veterans to a special Ice Cream Social; a heartfelt gathering filled with meaningful conversations and sweet frozen treats from Baskin-Robbins.The Office of the Defence Attaché of the Korean Embassy visited Perley to meet with Korean War veterans and commemorate Korean Veteran's Armistice Day. The visit included a wreath-laying ceremony and a casual social gathering with ice cream. Thirteen Korean War veterans, including the Capital Unit of the Korea Veterans Association (KVA Unit 7 President Bill Black), participated in the event. Colonel Dongwon Lee, the Defense Attaché, personally thanked the veterans and served each one of them ice cream.

More than just a social occasion, the event celebrated the deep and enduring bond between Canada and Korea, while paying tribute to the brave individuals who served during the Korean War- many of whom maintain a profound connection to Korea to this day. Veteran Gord Harrison shared his heartfelt reflections, saying that his decision to join the Korean War at the age of 15 was, in hindsight, one of the best choices he had ever made. He expressed deep gratitude to Korea and shared that the choice he made as a 15-year-old boy to decide to serve in the Korean War was a great choice.

It was a warm and memorable afternoon of appreciation, reflection, and shared history.
