Alex Schram

Alex Schram is the Manager of Resident Care for the Rideau Veterans Residence at Perley Health, joining the organization in September 2025. Alex brings a diverse clinical expertise to champion high-quality, resident-centered care for the largest Veteran-serving long-term care residence in Eastern Ontario.

Building on more than 75 years of history, Perley Health provides specialized, person-centered care tailored to the unique social, emotional, and clinical needs of frail Veterans. This residence includes a dedicated, secure unit specifically designed for Veterans living with dementia.

With a background spanning kinesiology, clinical research, and nursing, Alex began her career at the Montreal General Hospital. There, she worked as a kinesiologist supporting individuals in optimizing physical function and recovery, later transitioning into restorative care within long‑term care populations. It was these early experiences in long-term care that inspired her to expand her clinical scope and pursue nursing. Since relocating to the region, she has gained valuable healthcare leadership experience, serving as a clinical manager before stepping into her current position at Perley Health.

Alex holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Kinesiology from McGill University, specializing in exercise physiology. Her graduate research focused on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), contributing to published work in prestigious journals such as the European Journal of Surgical Oncology and Clinical Nutrition ESPEN. Driven to deepen her clinical and leadership practice, she returned to McGill University to complete a Master of Science in Applied Nursing.

Alex remains committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and fostering environments that support both resident and staff well-being.
