Musical Therapist

Full-Time (0.8 FTE; 4 Days A Week)

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Therapeutic Recreation & Creative Arts, develops, organizes and directs music therapy programs for groups and individuals designed to assist the patient in achieving therapeutic goals and improving quality of life.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, implement and supervise music therapy programs.
  • As a member of the multidisciplinary team assesses needs of referred resident.
  • Observe and documents behaviour and relays information to other team members through verbal or written reports.
  • Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
  • Liaise with other multidisciplinary staff (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Recreation Therapy) to facilitate quality resident care.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance activities by evaluating and auditing music therapy programs.
  • Participate in in-service programs as required.
  • Develop an appropriate selection of music and program material to encourage resident participation.
  • Select, order, and maintain music therapy materials under the direction of the department manager.
  • Orient and supervise interns, students, and volunteers to the program.
  • Maintain and develop a knowledge of the music therapy field.
  • Keep records of assessments and progress of patients.
  • Respond to enquiries from staff, external agencies and the community in relation to music therapy.
  • Participate in committees of the organization as required.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Music Therapy & Post-graduate Internship (1000 hours of clinical, specialized training).
  • Accreditation with the Canadian Association of Music Therapy, M.T.A. (Music Therapist Accredited) Designation.
