Registered Nurse - Wound, Ostomy and Continence

Full-Time

Salary: $39.07- $56.00 per hour

SUMMARY:

In this corporate role the Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable to provide professional nursing care to residents and build capacity in the nursing team as it relates to skin and wound, ostomy, and continence.

Following the Principles of the model of care, the Primary functions of the Registered Nurse include assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of resident care needs; delivery of skilled procedures according to all College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice; and documentation.

The Registered Nurse is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values to ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence, demonstrated through clinical leadership using excellent knowledge, skills and judgement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The nurse specializing in wound, continence and ostomy's primary responsibility is to support the team as it relates to skin and wound, continence and ostomy.
  • Works closely with a SWAN RPN (Skin Wellness Associate Nurse) and the lead NSWOC.
  • Provides nursing care in compliance with established policy, physician's orders, and the resident plan of care, within the RN scope of practice; ensures delivery of excellent nursing and personal care.
  • Develops and sustains individualized care plans based on resident assessments; maintains accurate and complete records of nursing care delivered.
  • Demonstrates professional knowledge of all nursing care equipment; leads the assessment, intervention, and evaluation of resident care needs, specifically in skin, wound, ostomy, and continence.
  • Actively participates in Quality and Risk management programs, contributes to nursing policy development, and recommends corrective action.
  • Ensures personal compliance with health and safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment and maintaining clean environments.
  • Models positive relationships within the care team; communicates learning needs; completes mandatory education; and ensures ongoing professional development.
  • Provides quality customer service to residents and families, with effective communication about resident health status and timely response to concerns.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with MLTC and understands related legislation and regulations to ensure compliance with standards.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario with no restrictions;
  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Canadian Wound, Ostomy, Continence Education Program (WOC-EP)

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of standards and guidelines of wound, ostomy and continence care;
  • Technical knowledge and skill in Negative Pressure Wound Therapy;
  • Comprehensive wound, ostomy, and continence patient health assessment skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of wound and ostomy products including their indications and contraindications for use;
  • Expertise in resident / family and staff teaching;
  • Understanding of and obvious commitment to resident and family centered care;
  • English proficiency in interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • A caring and empathetic attitude is crucial;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Proficiency with WORD, email, internet use and computerized documentation;
  • Current and maintenance of annual Adult CPR certification.

Salary: $39.07- $56.00 per hour
