Physiotherapist Aide
Full-Time; 35 Hours/Week; 8:00AM-3:30PM
As a Physiotherapist Aide, you will play a crucial role in supporting the rehabilitation and well-being of long-term care residents, short-stay residents, staff and private clients. You will work under the guidance of a Physiotherapist, implementing personalized care plans to enhance mobility, strength, and overall functional abilities.
The Physiotherapist Aide has the following key responsibilities:
- Leads one on one treatment or group sessions with long-term care residents, short-stay residents or private clients, following the care plan as directed by the Physiotherapist
- Demonstrates and works through exercise programs for range of motion, strength/endurance, balance, coordination, and tone management
- Facilitates mobility training using gait aids
- Educates residents/clients on safe use of mobility aids
- Uses resident handling and positioning techniques to facilitate safe transfers to optimize and maintain function
- Orients resident/client to the treatment area, prepares therapy rooms, and assembles treatment equipment and supplies
- Monitors resident/client status during the application of assigned, specific physiotherapy intervention and if resident/client has an adverse reaction or is at risk, suspends intervention and consults Physiotherapist
- Documents all clinical care in the electronic medical record
- Ensures cleanliness and tidiness of equipment and areas where equipment is stored and kept
- Assists with maintaining inventory of supplies
- Assists with preventative maintenance of clinic equipment
- Coordinates and collaborates with other health professionals, families, and vendors keeping a resident/family-centred approach
- Completes monthly statistics as required
- Completes administrative duties as needed to support professional role (e.g., photocopying, faxing or scanning documents, maintaining filing systems, etc.)
- Performs other related duties as required
Requirements:
- Occupational Therapist Assistant Diploma / Physiotherapist Aide Diploma
- A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is required, most recently as a Physiotherapist Aide (or similar position) preferably in a long-term care setting.
- Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates good judgement and discretion in handling confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and to promote efficient processes in the work environment
