David Walden, Board Member

David Walden has been a member of the Board of Directors at Perley Health since 2013. He achieved a distinguished career working with national and international organizations including holding the position of Secretary-General, Canadian Commission for UNESCO, 1999-2013 from which he retired in March 2013. Since 2014, he has also been a member of the Strategic Planning Working Group at Perley Health.

After receiving his Honours Bachelor of Arts, History and Political Science from Carleton University in 1976. He went on to obtain his Master of Arts, Canadian Studies from Carleton University in 1980. He returned to the classroom in 2014 as a Lecturer at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University.

During his career, he has represented Canada as a delegate or committee member on numerous international projects and commissions, and chaired a 22-country intergovernmental committee during his tenure with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.) He has led various projects related to the international protection of cultural property and prevention of illicit trafficking, including negotiating agreements with the U.S.A.  This work also resulted in collaborative projects with the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, England, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva, Switzerland. He now consults on international and governance issues.
